Every year, both of the manufacturers we install for re-verify our credentials. For 2026, our Velux Certified Installer (VCI) status, which we have held since 2004, and our Fakro Certified Installer status have both been renewed. We also keep our direct dealer accounts with Velux Canada and Fakro Canada.
That is a short piece of news, but it matters for anyone choosing a skylight this year. Below we explain what certification actually means for your warranty, and how Velux and Fakro differ for Toronto homes.
What the 2026 Renewal Means for You
Factory Warranty Passthrough
When a certified installer fits a skylight to the manufacturer’s protocol, the factory warranty passes through to you cleanly. Velux offers 10 years on the product and up to 20 years on glass against seal failure. Fakro offers a 10-year product warranty. On top of that, we give a lifetime leak-free warranty on our install flashing.
Model-Specific Install Protocols
Both brands publish detailed instructions for each model and roof type, including which flashing kit to use and how the underlayment collar laps. Certification means our crews are trained on those protocols and follow them every time.
Direct Dealer Access
Our dealer accounts mean we order the exact model, size code and flashing kit you need, and we can source replacement sashes, blinds and accessories without going through a big-box store.
Velux vs Fakro: How They Compare for Toronto Homes
Both are excellent. In our opinion, the right choice depends on the room, the roof and what you want the skylight to do. Here is how we usually think about it:
| Need | Velux pick | Fakro pick |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed light, pitched roof | FS deck-mount | FTT thermal fixed |
| Manual venting | VS | Fakro venting range |
| No-wire remote venting | VSS solar with rain sensor | Not our usual Fakro pick |
| Hardwired electric | VCS | FXP preselect electric |
| Low-slope retrofit | FCM curb-mount | Curb-mount range |
| Flat roof, walkable | Flat glass range | DXW walkable |
| Interior rooms | TGR sun tunnel | Sun tunnel range |

Where Velux Stands Out
Velux has the widest range in Canada and the most complete accessory ecosystem. The Velux VSS solar skylight is our most requested model for kitchens, bedrooms and high ceilings because it opens by remote with no wiring and closes itself when the rain sensor trips. Velux blinds, keypads and the Velux Active smart system all integrate cleanly. If you have an older Velux, the size code on the data plate usually maps straight to a current model, which makes Velux skylight replacement simple.
Where Fakro Stands Out
Fakro is strong on thermal performance. The Fakro FTT thermal fixed unit is a great fit for energy-focused builds and cold, exposed roofs. The Fakro DXW walkable flat-roof glass is our first choice for rooftop terraces and condo townhouse decks. The Fakro FXP preselect electric unit is a solid hardwired option where power is easy to run.

What About Big-Box Skylights?
We get asked this a lot. Big-box skylights cost less on the shelf, but they often come without a matched flashing kit, with lower-grade glass and with a warranty that can be hard to claim. The installer matters even more than the brand, and a cheap unit installed with caulk instead of flashing will cost more in repairs than you saved.
For the full evergreen comparison, see the “Velux vs Fakro vs Big-Box” section on our main skylight installation Toronto page.

How to Choose
If you are not sure which brand fits your project, that is exactly what the free on-site assessment is for. We look at the room, the roof and how you will use the skylight, and we recommend whichever brand and model fits best. Because we are certified for both, we have no reason to push one over the other.
